WebImage

WebImage is a simple digital image editing program. I wrote it due to the fact my wife doesn’t have the technical savvy to use something like paint or paint.net or anything else anymore complicated than this program.

The advantage of this program is that its simple, has zero foot print and is one file. So to pass it around is as simple as copying the file to a new location.

The options on the program are simple, you can resize images, crop them, rotate them and save them after editing them.

WebImage Digital Image Editing Application

As you can see the application is simple and clean. I wrote this application 4 years ago and I needed to update it as my wife has a tendency to takes photos with the camera on its side. Therefore I added the rotate left and right options.

There is not a lot to the tool bar and if you hover over the buttons they will tool tip what they do. Starting from the left the buttons do the following:

  1. Open an Image in WebImage. You can also set WebImage to open all images if you wished.
  2. Save an Image. This button only works when you modify the loaded image.
  3. WebImage opens images in their original size, therefore if images are extremely large then WebImage will become very large. Just click the third button to auto size the image to a sensible size.
  4. This button makes a small portrait size of the image. Originally this program used to upload the images to a web application I wrote and one of the requirements was a portrait sized image. I decided not to remove it when I refreshed the application. The uploading capability was removed.
  5. This is the crop button. Once an image is loaded all you have to do is left click on the image and drag a box around the area of the photo you want to crop. Then click the scissors and it will be done.
  6. If you dont like the area you have cropped, just click this button and it will reload the image. This only works when you have loaded the image from disk. If you use the Windows clipboard to load the image then the reload feature wont work.
  7. Rotate the image to the left. For those times someone uses the camera on its side.
  8. Rotate the image to the right. For those times…. you know the rest :-)
  9. Add a chat bubble or information box to your photos. This feature give you alot of control and makes it easy to apply comic style chat bubbles to images. Th key to placing the bubble is to click on the image where the start of the bubbles neck will be.

If you want to resize an image upwards or to different dimensions than what the resize button offers, just click the edit menu and click resize. This will open a dialog that allows you to stipulate the sizes you wish to resize the image too.

Also if you want to edit screen captures, then just take a screen capture and you can use the edit menu and the paste option to dump the screen capture into WebImage. Also if you make some edits and wish to copy the new image into a document then just use the edit menu and the copy option.

Installing Web Image

All you need to do to install WebImage is download the zip file containing the program and unzip it.

If you want WebImage to be your default image editing program then click the About option on the menu and send me feedback asking how to install WebImage as your default image editing program.

Ill email you back with the instructions, seeing as WebImage is free and you can distribute it as you see fit, as long as always give credit back to me as its creator its a small price to pay. Those that are Windows aware wont need to use the feedback form for instructions, so why dont you use it to say whether you like the application or a feature you might like to see added.
