About
Welcome to my corner of the net. My name is Shane Speering and I am currently working for Cisco as a IronPort Systems Engineer and have to say I currently am totally happy with my job and who I work for. Which for me is a change as normally I get bored and restless easily and therefore find staying in one place a challenge.
However I think I have discovered I don’t like small ponds because it’s to easy to grow into the big fish in a small pond and once I’m the big fish I get bored. So Cisco offers me the challenge in that to become a big fish I have to eat allot of content and get allot of experience under my belt before that day arrives. Therefore the itchy feet are a long way off.
So working as a System Engineer sort of belies my passion which is software development. I am a Microsoft .NET Certified Application Developer and have many years experience writing code for a living and reviewing code from a security perspective. See years ago I got into application security, back when network security was under the spot light. This gave me the opportunity to specialise in a area not to many people in my part of the world were focused. Now days application security has more of the focus and I’m working in a completely different field
So what can you expect to find on my blog. Well as the title says, a whole lot of something about nothing or a whole lot of nothing about something. I don’t have a focus except to use it as my soap box when I want, or a place to share applications I have written that someone else may see some value in or just a place to write a diary of my life experiences so that when my memory does fade I can come back here and remember who I was.
If you add my blog to your RSS reader, don’t worry I wont be taking up too much bandwidth as I have found the intent to write a blog strong, however the motivation goes up and down, depending on the work load in real life. Anyway, thats who I am and what you can expect or not expect when you visit my corner of the net.
Cheers
Shane
